Ubuntu Freezes when I adjust the screen brightness

Asked by rat

I have always faced this problem.

I am using a DELL Inspiron N 5010 laptop.
When I try to change the brightness of the screen, the computer freezes. Nothing works then. I can't move mu cursor or bring up dash. I have to force shutdown the system. I have Ubuntu 13.10 now. Previously I had Ubuntu studio 13.03 and I had same issue. Prior to that I faced the same issue with Fedora beefy miracle too. But It worked fine with BOSS 4.0 and Ubuntu 10.10.

I have dual boot and it was always fine with Windows.

Please help me.

Have you tried different desktop environments?

What do you mean by different environments? How to try them?

If this is what you mean:

In ubuntu studio 13.03, there were options on login screen to choose between ubuntu studio and XFCE environment.
I have tried both of them, the issue occurs in both.
