Installing "Potrace"

Asked by Allen

Has anyone had experience installing "Potrace"?
I found it in the software centre, I installed it, it indicates it's installed but nothing is there.
They say it must be ran from a terminal.
Hows that done?
Should I copy files manually?

Thanks in advance.

Potrace is a command line program, it has no grafical user interface. You start it as a command in the Terminal with parameters. You should not expect any icon, any entry in the dash or anything to click on.

To use it, you run the Terminal application and enter text commands: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UsingTheTerminal
Here's the decription of the commands potrace does understand: http://potrace.sourceforge.net/potrace.1.html

I should have thought to ask this question in my original post.

Is there an open source Raster to Vector program out there I have over looked?

Thomas,
Thanks for the direction, I may have to go with this program despite any inconvenience.
