Silly question on 12.04.2 vs 12.04.3 nomenclature

Asked by Phil Norisez

I'm suspecting that 12.04.2 is 2-D and 12.04.3 is 3-D. Is this correct?

No, both have 2D and 3D installed.

The 12.04 Ubuntu release is LTS and supported for 5 years. There are lots of updates between release and say, year 4 of release. Sub release versions allow ISOs to be published with more of the updates already in the OS. Thisbis much like Windows with Service Pack 2 and Service Pack 3.

This means fewer updates after install as well as a more up to date OS in the LiveCD desktop.
