Help, what does Ignoring file name 'Untitled Document 1' in a directory when installing Java!

Asked by Katie Leger

I am trying to install Java on Ubuntu 13.10 and I keep getting this error...

"Ignoring file 'Untitled Document 1' in directory '/etc/apt/sources.list.d/' as it has no filename extension"

ALL I WANT TO DO IS INSTALL JAVA so I can play Pogo games on my laptop. I have Google Chrome, Chromimium, and Firefox.

Can anybody help me, please install Java on my laptop. I am NEW to ubuntu, so I would need help on what commands, etc to do, for a newbie, lol!

Thanks so much! :)

Hello,

In my opinion you are installing java sources which is not necessary for you. Those programs are for programmers which want to change the "java" program itself.

What you need is only what is called java "runtime"

I would suggest you 2 ways to install it:

(1) The simplest way

Open the software center,
Search for "java runtime", and you will find the OpenJDK version of java which should be enough.
You only have to click on the install button, type the superuser password and it will install itself.
Maybe you will have to log out and login again, I am not sure of that.

(2) If the first solution is not enough (I mean if you have problems afterwards to run pogo)

It could happen that something is missing in the OpenJdk version or that this version is too old for pogo, I don't know.
Then you can find a more consistent version of java on http://www.java.com
This version is supported by "Sun" (now Oracle) and you can be confident it's not virused.
Just check that the name of the file that you donwload begins with "jre", which means "Java Runtime Environment".

Good luck
Enrico
and follow the directives to install.
Just make sure that you ha

There is a PPA for Java which is significantly easier than trying to use Java.com

Can you help with this problem?
