IBus input method is marked as "off". Is this a problem?

Asked by clayton clent

I am running Lubuntu 12.10. I noticed a new icon this morning at the bottom right hand corner of my screen. It is IBus 1.4.1 and the input method off box is ticked. The Wikipedia page for IBus uses English words but not in any way that is meaningful to me. I have no idea what this IBus thing is, what it is for, whether I need it, or whether it should be turned on or off.

iBus is used for multilingual inputs (e.g. non english characters). If you don't foresee using a language other than english in any GUI application, then you have no need for iBus and you can leave it off. If you think you might want to use any iBus functionality, take a look here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ibus for how to set up iBus.
