Slave instal

Asked by Fredrik Nilsen

This might be a very stupid question but here goes:

I've been trying to instal Ubuntu on my new laptop, but due to the new laptop being a UEFI system, grub is having problems after instal... I've found a guide that says I need to change the hard disk partition table to MSDOS or MBR...

From I gather this can't be done with the partitioning software on the instal disk, I have to use gParted. However the problem is that when I try to boot the instal disk in live mode, I don't get a GUI (only low-graphics mode) because the graphics card in the laptop is so new that it's not supported.

So here is my question:
Is there any way of using a different computer (my stationary) to instal Ubuntu on the laptop?

One additional detail however. The hard disk in my laptop is an ssd that don't seem to have any kind of SATA connection ports, it basicly looks like just another computer card. There is also a sticker on it, waring me that any guaranties will be void if I tried to remove the ssd...

I was hoping that there was a way of doing it with USB cables or a crossover cable or something...

What video chip do you use?
Does the system have a make and model?

Thanks

Why was that not in the initial question?

Have you tried the boot option :

radeon.blacklist=1

My bad....

I'm possibly (probably) doing it wrong, but when I try to enter in the command list I get the error:

  Booting a command list
Error: Can't find command 'radeon.blacklist'

I'm not all that familiar with the details of Linux, so I'm guessing I'm doing something wrong...

Delete the options:

quiet splash

Then in their place add:

radeon.blacklist=1

Well, it removed the error message, but didn't solve the problem.

When booting in live mode I only get the low graphics mode and when I tried to reinstall Ubuntu I got the GUI (as I always have) when the installation is finished however, there is only the live USB boot option in my BIOS...

Just an idea:
What does boot-repair https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Boot-Repair report about your hard disks (bootable partitions, problems, ...)

Can you help with this problem?
