Win 7 clock keeps wrong time after 13,1 install

Asked by Cappy

Recently upgraded from 13.04 to 13.1 Now clock in th Win7 partition keeps reverting to the wrong time after booting into ubuntu, then shutting down and re starting in Win7. Changed setting to UTC in win 7, but no luck. Time is correct in 13.1. How do I make Win 7 behave after 13.1 install?

I suggest you post on a Windows forum as that is where your issue lies

Try using ntp and check the region thwe OS thinks it is in as well as the time in BIOS

have new battery, set time in bios, set time and time zone correctly, still runs different time. Keeps good time if I don't switch to 13.1. 13.04 did not exhibit this time problem.

How much is the time difference between Ubuntu and Windows?
If it is equal to the difference between your time zone and UTC, the problem most probably is that Ubuntu wants to keep the hardware clock at UTC, and Windows' default setting is to have it at local time zone.

There are options to change that behaviour in Windows
reg.exe add HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\TimeZoneInformation /v RealTimeIsUniversal /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f
and there is an option to change that in Ubuntu
(put "UTC=no" into /etc/default/rcS)

Check whether the UTC/local setting is really the root cause of your problem before you do such modification!

Solved. 13.1 default was set to UTC=yes. Changed this to UTC=no. 13.1 now uses local time as does Win 7 both system clocks now correctly agree.
