Simplifing shut down and restart ?

Asked by Al

I have to admit that I like the way MS Windows 7 allows you to shut down or restart your computer. Curser to bottom left corner click the start button and move the curser a little to the right to select shut down or restart. I would think eOS could do it simularly after clicking the power button in the right top corner by having a dropbox come out from the "shut down" giving you the choices to shut down, restart, or suspend. I know it's a little thing but eOS seems to be about making things simple. Why go to the top right corner, click the power button. Then click shut down. Then move to the middle of your desktop to choose shut down or restart. This is more of a pain when using a touch pad than a mouse but still a pain. Is this something that the developers do?

@Al, what Desktop Manager do you use ? i thought unity, gnome shell and other DM is simple enough

eOS is elementary OS, it is based on Ubuntu.

I am running the latest eOS under gnome. Yes the OS is pretty basic and for the most part simple. It can still be improved though. Most other distros that I have tried over the years seem to try and put everything possible into their OS, most of which I have no need for. I hate spending hours removing all their junk. I would rather get a good solid base system like eOS and add the few things I need.

My suggestion would make it easier and faster to shut down or restart the computer. Why go to the power icon click on shut down only to have to click on shut down again? To make matters worse, you need to go to the center of the desktop to confirm you want to shut down. This is like asking someone if they want a drink and after they say yes asking them again, you want a drink. Come on, this is redundant and unnecessary. While I am not a fan of Microsoft and only use Windows 7 when I must, at least they made an improvement in this area.

Elementary OS is not supported here or in any of the Ubuntu support channels. It's support is entirely separate from Ubuntu's. I suggest you post here :

http://elementaryforum.org

NONE of the Ubuntu based distributions are supported by the Ubuntu community. Similarly, Ubuntu is based on Debian but any requests for Ubuntu support in Debian support channels will be pointed to the Ubuntu channels.

Actually it would also apply to Ubuntu. I just switched to elementary OS this week after using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, 13.04 and 13.10.

It would apply to a lot istribitions but it does not mean you are supported by the Ubuntu community as you are not using Ubuntu. You are using Elementary OS.

Can you help with this problem?
