Request Graphics Driver for ACER D255

Asked by junichi mataji

Does Ubuntu support graphics driver for Acer d255? If it is, how to obtain it?..If it is necessary to submit the hardware's information then i am willing to do so.

When i was using win7 before, i was able to downscale my resolution from 1024x600 to 1024x768. Now i migrated to ubuntu. My one problem is I cant downscale my resolution to 1024x768, by which necessary to some applications to function well. My prelimanry assumption is that, it has something to do with the graphics driver. If it is possible with windows, i dont see any reason why cant it be with Ubuntu, which i personally believe, the the latter is far greater than Windows.

 Thanks a lot.

The native resolution of the screen is 1024x600, so it's not going to "downscale" to 1024x768. You should be more specific about what exactly you did in Windows. Did you do some sort of magnification?

As for driver, the GPU is Intel GMA3150, and the best (only accelerated) driver is installed by default.

Please read this:

http://www.specsbox.com/400/acer-aspire-one-d255-netbook-specs.html

I quote:

"
Video

10.1″ (1024 x 600) high-brightness (200-nit) TFT display
LED backlight, mercury-free
Integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3150
Microsoft DirectX 9.0 support
Up to 16.7 million colors"

So the native resolution of your screen is 1024x600

It is not possible to increase your resolution to 1024x768, EXCEPT by increasing the workspace into a virtual workspace of 1024x768, but that only creates another annoying issue.

You will then need to scroll down with the mouse to see the remaining pixels of the virtual screen....

I do not see any advantages in trying to create a virtual screen of 1024x768 if the native screen resolution of your PC is lower...

Can you help with this problem?
