App to take a snapshot of the screen

Is there a Linux app that is able to take a snapshot of a region or all of the screen? I wish to use the pictures in articles. Many thanks, Kevin.

You can use

gnome-screenshot --interactive

Type in "screenshots" in the Ubuntu Software Center search box. Also the "Print Screen" button on the keyboard will work.

Thank you for the suggestion of gnome-screenshot --interactive. Using this as a search item I found and installed Shutter
