sound issue with ubuntu

Asked by baconslice

I have a inspiron 3500
I have tried all of about 60 threads online to try and fix it and cannot and have reinstalled ubuntu that many times.
I have a list of all the threads on all the different websites in a 1 month period of time, I have tried at most 5 a day sometimes.

Is there a way you can please either fix this in the next build or explain to me step by step on what to do to fix it

my hardware id is
28a9e9e5a0e225cc11da94f82744e11f

my bios settings are the following for the audio (NM2200 neomagix256av card)
SB=220
WSS=530
Adlib=388
IRQ=5
DMA=0
DMA1=1

I like this linux the best so far better than FC
I had issues with my graphics and fonts on all FC builds, but your build shows my fonts fine.
I even got a wireless usb to work, but cannot get this sound to work.
I do freelance work and use this laptop for presentation purposes.

What response do you get with the lspci command in the terminal. It seems that you have been working a lot on this. Have you thought about using a USB audio converter, if you need it right away for work, it might be a quick fix. I have seen them for about $20. Of course that is not a final solution.

http://pont.net/linux/linuxI3500.html#SOUND indicates sound is indeed an issue on this laptop, you may well find it's a non-starter as williamts99 suggests.
