ia32-libs and lib32asound2 in saucy dropped

Asked by Peter Liedler

Is there a way to install the dropped package lib32asound2 in saucy?

Target is:

Install citrix receiver iaclient (latest version 12.1.0) on amd64 kubuntu saucy 13.10.
http://www.citrix.com/downloads/citrix-receiver/linux/receiver-for-linux-121.html#ctx-dl-eula

The package depends on libasound2 which was dropped. The installation of the rary package is not possible because it depends on the specific version if libasound2 (= 1.0.25-4ubuntu3) and saucy comes with 1.0.27.

Manual installation also depends on lib32asound2.

Thank you

I suggest you report a bug. Saucy is not stable, ready or for regular users.

If you want an OS that works I recommend you perform a clean install of Precise. It is LTS and supported til April 2017 and known to be rock solid

What did you expect!!?

@Peter: I saw your message to Ubuntu BugSquad, so I am responding...
It is not a bug with Ubuntu, so no, you should not file a bug with Ubuntu. The Citrix package is still depending on old "lib32" packages. Debian/Ubuntu has moved to a more robust multiarch scheme. For example, if the Citrix package wanted 32-bit libasound, it should depend on libasound2:i386.

Since Citrix is offering the packge, the best way to handle it is to encourage them to fix/update their Debian package.
