Not sure what you mean by "media player" before. I don't think that's the name of an application in Ubuntu. Totem is the default media player application, so if you reinstalled Ubuntu, that's why you will have it as your media player. What isn't working for you with Totem? Also, do you mean someone has sent you an htm file (i.e. the page source to a webpage), or they've sent you a link via email that you can't open? Which email program are you using?

Bharadwaj is right, Youtube is an website - so you would access it with a browser (like Firefox). Typically when you go to the site, if the Flash plugin that's required isn't installed, you'll be prompted to install it.

I'm afraid I'm not too familiar with Thunderbird, so someone else can probably help you better there, but just to make sure, are you trying to click on a link (such as http://www.ubuntu.com ) in an email someone has sent you, or are you trying to open an attachment that's a webpage someone has sent you (it would be very strange for them to send you a web page as an attachment - typically they'd send you a link that you would click on it and it would then open in your default browser, which in Ubuntu is typically Firefox).
