Please read this:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

I assume you are using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Desktop edition, which is end-of-life and not supported anymore.

I recommend performing a clean install of Ubuntu 12.04 LTS which is supported until April 2017.

hey! 1st install wicd. 2nd open terminal, give root pswd and type rfkilll unblockwifi, and rfkill unblock all and 3rd from synaptic or ubuntu software center the most easiest way could be to install the latest kernel package.that is its name i think .hope i helped.

Can you help with this problem?
