Ubuntu operating system

Asked by davidzaq1

Hello,

I made the terrible mistake of upgrading to Ubuntu 13.04 from 12.04. 13.04 is the wowrst version I have ever had so far.
It is really bad. Everything from crashing, to shorting out, to not running programs and messages that it has suffered internal problems. The screen flashes alot and when I try to siten to a program on the internet and play a simple game like solitaire at the the same time, the whole compter screen starts flickering, flashing and a looks like the computer is shorting out and then turns off. Then I have to restart the computer.
I never had this happen with 12.04 or even 10.03 but this version is awful. In my opinion, if this is the best Ubuntu can come up with, I would just give up and go back to windows.
But since 10.04 was perfect and 12.04 was great, I am wondering what happened with this version. Maybe they got some computer trainee to start writing these programs because I think who ever did this, did not know what they were doing.

My question, I do not know if I still have my 12.04 disk. Is there a way to buy a 12.04 disk from Ubuntu or to get another disk from somewhere? I have to get rid of 13.04.

Thank you for your help.

You can download one and make a CD. There is the Ubuntu store or even people selling them on Ebay for cheap. Upgrades can have issues. I assume you upgraded to 12.10 first.

i find 13.04 extremely stable and there is tons of advice available on the net and ubuntu web site advising to download and boot from iso disk rather than upgrade as is now the case in 13.10 beta early days yet and a huge team working well to get it running on ASAP BASIS i find that some folk are too quick to moan and bitch and give little back to the ethos of ubuntu if they have 100 quid to donate the the seattle muppets and then have total data loss in a weeks time ,be my guest

Hello,

You know, I am really not sure at this point.. I remember I upgraded but I do not remember which version I did first. When I had 10.04. I bought the 12.04 disk and installed it from there.
When I was installing updates I believe it said 12.10 was available so I think I upgraded to that first and then 13.04 was made available.

This version is really messed up and maybe like you said, maybe it got messed up during the upgrade, either way, I think 12.04 is the best as it worked perfectly for me and it is supported for a long time.

Maybe I can download the version again and make a CD.

Do you have some other suggestions?

Thank you,
David

You can download 12.04 from here:
http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop

Because of the way Ubuntu works its not really possible to downgrade so you will need to backup then do a fresh install.

12.04 is supported till April 2017

thank you for the link but I am really new to this. I do not know a lot about computers, just basic operations.

There was instructions how to make this bootable from a flash drive but it is a little more complicated then I thought. Can you give me specific instructions how to re-install this? Thank you.

Ok, Thank you but I am still confused, sorry.

Post # 5 above says to download the latest 12.04.3 go to the link.
I followed the link but it says if I want to install this from CD what to do, but I do not have a CD.

It then said I could install from a Flash drive but I do not have a flash drive with 12.04.3 on it.

It said the steps to install but not how to download the 12.04.3.

Am I missing something here? Can you help me figure this out please?

Thank you.

Download the ISO and you can use usb-creator-gtk to put the data onto a blank USB stick

Use http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop as starting point.
On the right hand side you have two buttons, one for downloading 12.04 and one for 13.04. You should use 12.04. Depenfding on the capabilities of your hardware you can user the 32bit or 64bit version. (The button for 12.04 in fact will download the installation medium for the 12.04.3 point-release)

On that page, futher down there are instructions explaining how to burn a DVD from that .iso file, or how to create a bootable USB stick (including links to the programs that you might need) from it.

Well, I went to the link above in post 11. I clicked on the version 12.04 download.
It took me to another page that asked me if I wanted extra features in the download and to select the features with the slider bars.

I chose the features I wanted cliked the pay with pay pal tab. I was taken to another page that said, " you are not authorized to access this page".

So, I went back and did not chose any of the features and clicked on the tab which said,
"no thanks, just take me to the download".
I went to the next page and again it said, " you are not authorized to access this page".

Any idea what I am doing wrong?

Thank you.

I have not experienced it myself, but I've heard of people receiving that "you are not authorized to access this page" error message instead of a download.

You can directly download the installation kit .iso file from the web page http://releases.ubuntu.com/precise/

Select the desktop 32bit or 64bit version ubuntu-12.04.3-desktop-i386.iso or ubuntu-12.04.3-desktop-amd64.iso

And then proceed as shown in the pages that I gave in my previous answer (I hope you can access these without problem).
