12.02 LTS - i wish to reinstall my system complete with all customisations

Asked by Phil Morris

Hello

I enjoy 12.02 but i have loaded the drive with many files and it is getting slow after a couple of years.

I wish to do a fresh install of the O/S and reformat my disk but HOw can i save up my full system complete with drivers and numerous apps so that it does not take me days to rebuild from scratch? ie: how can i do a mirror install after saving data files away separately.

thanks
Phil

Your backups will be by far the easiest way to restore settings.

If you use the install CD live desktop you can delete the files from the Ubuntu partition but leave /home this will keep your settings in tact between the installs.

If you have a separate partition for /home then reassign its purpose using the "something else" option but set it to not be formatted
