12.04 LTS -clearing USB locations

Asked by Phil Morris

hello

I am having problems reconnecting a printer that WAS working on this machine before.
It is USB to serial - an older kyocera fs600 - but it was working.

now
Operation successful.

Question: How do i clear the last entry for prolific tech out of this list. I then want to do a reinstall of the printer.
As i remember it worked when it was installed higher up

TIA
phil

That entry is the USB to LPT (parallel port) adapter. It will show up there once it is plugged in. I have no idea why you would remove that entry, but the best way is just to unplug the adapter.

Thanks Thomas
the problem is it deosnt move when i unpplug it,
what i did is try use another usb to //serial (it is serial not parallel) for a SImm card reader

and since then this entry moved 'down ' the list and now neither device works
thats why i wanted to refresh the whole lot

Rebooting the computer should start with an empty usb device table and re-create entries for those device that are present.

So disconnect the converter cable from the computer, reboot, and issue lsusb again - what is the output?

Can you help with this problem?
