How do I down load Photos form my smart phone

I have Just moved to Ubuntu. From Windows 7 I plug the usb cord from phone to my computer a screen comes up but I can't do nothing with It doesn't give a file to click on Thank you

The phone is a Samsung Galaxy. The version is 13.04/Ringtail

I find that packages mtpfs and mtp-tools are necessary in many cases to talk to my usb devices. Make a directory mtp under /mnt, and then you can simply
sudo mtpfs /mnt/mtp
and see the files on the device. Now you can use file manager to navigate to (filesystem) /mnt/mtp and drag and drop files.
