The scanner portion of my Epson Stylus NX430 printer is not working.

When I installed the Epson Stylus NX430 printer in late August when I installed the Ubuntu 13 OS, my son and I can not get the scanner part of the printer to work. We get an error message that says "Communication Error. Connect computer." The printer is connected to the computer. Is there some software we can download so my son can download some of his business papers that he needs to send to his office each evening?

Before I switched to Linux Ubuntu, I was using Windows 7 OS and everything worked properly. Also, when we installed the Linux, it was supposed to be a dual boot and none of my Windows 7 files will come up even though I save all of them on a flash drive.

Overall, I am happy with the Linux and appreciate that I don't have to worry about viruses or having to purchase new OS all the time. I just want to be able to use the scanner and use some of my other files.

Have you installed a scanner program from Ubuntu Software Center? Ubuntu 13.04 should work fine, Ubuntu 13.10 may still have bugs in it. I have Skanlite, XSane Image, and Simple Scan installed. Check the reviews.

Have you installed the linux scanner drivers for your device from http://download.ebz.epson.net/dsc/search/01/search/?OSC=LX

Enter the product name of your device (NX430), click on the icon with the magnifying glass, on the page that opens click on the 'Download' button besides 'Scanner driver ... core package&data package'
On the next page accept the license agreement, and finally download and install
iscan_2.29.1-5~usb0.1.ltdl7_amd64.deb or iscan_2.29.1-5~usb0.1.ltdl7_i386.deb (depending on your architecture - 32bit or 64bit)
and install iscan-data_1.23.0-1_all.deb
