how do i go from lubuntu 12.o4 to ubuntu 12.xx or 13.xx?

My ubuntu 12.04 crashed a couple of months back. Many frustrating months followed, but I eventually got Lubuntu 12.04 to run and kept all my data. I have now backed everything up and am ready to have a crack at an ubuntu os. Can somebody guide me through the steps? Many thanks, Clayton

first check for your internet connection and try following in a terminal(Ctrl+Alt+T)

sudo apt-get update

do-release-upgrade -c

that is it.

Or
you can search for "Update manager" in Unity lense(which is at upper left corner ubuntu icon)

in update manager click on settings button and go to Updates tab
and check athleast first check boxes and adjust update settings as you wish.

Set the bottom most seting "Notify me of new Ubuntu version" to "For any new version" and close.

then check for updates, you'll get notification of new distribution releases and upgrade option.
then Upgrade.
