There is a PPA for that. No need to download from their website.

Please run these commands in a Terminal:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:irie/blender

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install blender

two things, the ppa works great, but i need 64 bit blender, and the other thing is

/home/nomad/Blender/blender-2.68a-linux-glibc211-x86_64/blender: error while loading shared libraries: libSDL-1.2.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or director

The PPA has a 64-bit version available and it will be automatically installed if you're using a 64-bit system..
