Support for LG GSA-4040B DVD writer

Asked by jim_griffiths

When running Dapper Drake, my LG GSA-4040B DVD read/write drive does not seem to behave peoperly.
1.When a blank disk is inserted into the drive, the drive icon pops up temporarily on the desktop and then disappears.
2. When I try to mount it, the OS complains that it cannot mount it because it is either wrtite protected, has a bad block or is an incompatible system. Changing permissions under root seems to have zero effect.

Any help is appreciated.

Jim

Insert a disc, then type the following command to see what the system thinks is going on:-

$ dmesg

To view just the last few lines (rather than the whole log) you can do this:-

$ dmesg | tail

You might want to paste the output if it's relavent.

This is what the dmesg | tail command yields

Any thoughts

Can anyone tell me what the above paste means?
Is my GSA-4040B DVDR/W drive being recognized.?
 Why is it not mounting with R/W permissions?

cdrom: This disc doesn't have any tracks I recognize! means that the medium is empty (dont have tracks).

All CD/DVD are ATAPI compliant, this means that all Linux compatible.
Is your drive recognized by BIOS?

I also notice that even with a commercialy burned DVD, the icon that comes up on the desktop that shows the drive is mounted with something does not stay more than a few seconds.....
How can I fix this?

Can you help with this problem?
