Network 2 PCs! How?

Asked by Peter

A simple question here for someone. I have just bought a 2nd PC. Both have Ubuntu 7.04. I think they both have a network card. The old PC has USB1 and the new PC surely has USB2? Is it best to use USB to USB or the network cards for occasional linking to share printers etc. Only one PC will have dial up internet connection. The old computer will mainly be used for my wife's photos . You can see from the question that I am not a hardware person.

Peter,

I believe that the best way for you to share your files/printers is through your network card. There are cheap routers/switches available, or you can use a 'crossover' network cable. Though setting up with a router is probably easier for you.

Once they are connected to the same network, it's pretty self explanatory. In the printer setup section there is a check box to share your printers. For files, there is System>Administration>Shared Folders
