XSANE suddenly fails to work in Ubuntu 12.04

Asked by Julianloui

After I first installed XSANE a few weeks ago, I was amazed by how easy it was to use this handy program. Tonight all of a sudden, things changed. Not even re-installing SANE and XSANE helps. Having a poor memory definitely aggrvates my problem. I no longer remember in what order to click SCAN and Acquire Preview. When I click Scan or Acquire Preview, the scanner scans the document properly but I no longer see anything in the saved output file. The documentation seems sketchy. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Does simple scan do the same thing?

Thanks

Yes. When I hit Scan, XSANE operates the HPF4200 scanner. But out.pnm shows nothing, after I click Save. Thanks again.

Andrew,

What is the difference between simple Scan and Acquire Preview?

One thing I would like to point out is that Simple-Scan is much slower than XSANE although its menu is much clearer and simpler than that of XSANE. I'll try to debug XSANE on my own when time is available.
