Shutter takes dark screenshots of window with Ubuntu 13.04 under VirtualBox

Asked by Michael McCallister

I'm running Ubuntu 13.04 as an Oracle VirtualBox 4.2.16 client; Windows 7 Home Premium as host. I want to take a screen shot of a browser window, but each time I ask Shutter to take this shot, the resulting image is 100% black.

The screen itself displays quite normally. The Display properties of the VirtualBox instance are:
Video Memory: 12MB
Acceleration: 3D
Remote Desktop Server: Disabled (but the VDI file is stored locally).

All thoughts greatly appreciated.

True enough, but I've used Shutter before in other virtual environments without issue. Would be nice to know what's going on.

Do other screenshot applications do the same?

Yes, I just checked gnome-screenshot -- same black screen. So it's definitely not Shutter.

Might this have something to do with display/monitor settings? I see that the Display Settings detect the monitor as a VBX 0" and Color Settings don't allow Calibration for the "unknown - VBOX monitor"
