Previous Ubuntu versions

Asked by davidzaq1

Hello,

I have made the misttake of upgrading to Ubuntu 13.04. This is a terrible version and do not like it at all.
I want to go back to 12.04. Is there a way to do this without installing from the disk again?
Installing from the disk takes a long time and I do not want to take the chance of wiping out my system.

Just wondering if there is a link to click on to do a downgrade, in the same way you click on the link to do an upgrade.

Any help with this would be appreciated.

Thank you,
David

Hello,

Unfortunately there is no such option. I mean to downgrade from a newer version to an older one.
The only way is to re-install the whole system.

Do not be afraid about your personal files, a re-installation does not remove your personal files and settings. It replaces only the basic system. (the root , / )

You have to load a live media of Ubuntu, the version you want to re-install and then click on "Something Else". From there you will select the partition (CAREFULLY) where you have your actual system (13.04) and click "Change". You will select Filesystem (ext4), mount point (/) root , BUT DO NOT SELECT the FORMAT box. Leave it as it is - Unchecked.

After the installation finish, you will have a new Ubuntu 12.04 LTS system, with the same /home directory. Do not forget to use the same NAME and USERNAME during installation, in order to not have any permissions problems with your files.

Regards

If you upgraded directly from Precise to Raring without upgrading to Quantal inbetween you will get issues.

As an FYI, Raring is EOL in January 2014 wheras Precise is LTS and supported til April 2017. Any particular reason to the upgrade?

As stated above, you will need to wipe your current Raring install off your system and reinstall with Precise from install CD or USB.

I think this is a double post I put here but thank you for the information listed above. Since I am not a great computer programmer and just know the basics of computers. can you give me a little more specifics on how to re-install the 12.04 and how to make it work from a flash drive.

In the other post, someone said there is a new 12.04.3 LTS that is available and so I would like to put this one on my system.

Thank you for the continued support.

David
