Clock vanished in 12.04

Asked by Tom

Hi :)
My clock has just suddenly vanished in Ubuntu 12.04 using Unity. A couple of reboots and "fix broken packages" hasn't fixed it.

The biggest change i had done was last week i uninstalled Evolution in order to install a much more up-to-date version. I've also got Ubuntu Tweaks but that was ages ago.

If the fastest answer to this is just to reinstall the OS then that is fine. I have /home on a separate partition so reinstall is only a case of running through adding a few extra programs (such as gimp)
Regards from
Tom :)

Open a terminal (CTRL+ALT+T) and try this

sudo apt-get install indicator-datetime

may need to log out and back in again or reboot to see it

If it's already installed, press ALT+F2 and run:

/usr/lib/indicator-datetime/indicator-datetime-service

Hi :)
Hah, same again on another machine. Same answer fixed it.

Never happened before and now twice in under a week. I think it is due to my messing around with the gnome3 ppa and i think the problem is user-error rather than anything at their end.

Thanks again and regards from
Tom :)
