Amarok lock-up/terminate/reopen/then works

Asked by HousieMousie2

Hi,

Just looking for information here...

After every fresh start up of my machine:

Amarok loads seemingly without issue until I ask it to play a song, then it will sit there and do nothing for as long as I am willing to let it, not responding to any other actions (the rest of my system acts normally.) I hit the close X and wait. It will then offer to terminate Amarok, I do. When I restart Amarok it works fine.

I have tried opening/closing/reopening Amarok without asking it to play a song first, but that has no positive effect. It has to fail first before terminating/reopening will make it work.

The song(s) I ask it to play are displayed in the play list area of the screen. I have not tried asking it to play directly from the Collection list. (* Checked on this, source does not effect results.)

Is this an issue for other users or is it just something I am experiencing? I have searched Google and Ubuntu forums but have not found any solutions, although I did find one other person one the Ubuntu forum who seemed to have the same problem.

When navigating away from Amarok after it locks up, then coming back to it, it is not properly displayed, showing spots of blank background colors and areas of my desktop, no text shows anywhere within the Amarok window.

Kubuntu Gutsy Gibbon, fully up-dated
Amarok pre-installed, from (disk image verified) Live CD, altered to play wma and others.

IS the music library on an external drive such as a usb drive? If so is that drive mounted before opening Amarok? I had a problem where after I rebooted my laptop until I mounted my USB drive. Is that happening?

No, it is however on another internal hard drive. The hard drive on which the music is stored belongs to Windows XP. I have not had any issues working with data from that hard drive, but it gives me something else to try.

Thank you for the idea/question, Jonathan Jesse.

Cheers.

Sorry, I did not include this in my other reply... the hard drive in question loads mounted on start-up.

Sorry that I don't quite know how to solve the problem them, trying to think of a good way to troubleshoot this. I may have missed it but what version of Kubuntu. Can you try a live hardy cd to see if that solves the problem?

Are you running KDE4 at all?

lol No need to apologize... the problem is annoying, not life threatening. lol

I am running Gutsy Gibbon (7.10) installed from a Live CD. The disk image checked out fine.

You asked, "Can you try a live hardy cd to see if that solves the problem?"

Do you mean Hardy Heron?

As for KDE4, I have no idea. I am new to Linux, coming from Windows, I have gotten past the 'it should just work' mind set... but have a LONG way to go before I get to 'I know what I am doing and how to fix it.' ;-)

Tell me how to find out which version of KDE I have and I will gladly report back what I find.

Thank you for your time!

Just FYI...

Shortly after I did the most recent update/upgrade Amarok started working correctly.
