launch recovery mode from an installation CD

Asked by Norman S. Clerman

Hello,

I have lost all administration rights on version 12.04. To manage the system, I need to recover these rights.I have an installation disk, made by burning file

ubuntu-12.04.02-desktop-amd64.iso

to a CD

I have read in several locations how to recover admin rights from recovery mode. My problem is that when I try to boot from the installation disk I am given no opportunity to get into recovery mode. It jumps straight into installation, asking for a language.

Perhaps I need to burn a disk from a different file, or perhaps I need to enter a specific keystroke from when the disk boots. If the latter, at what stage do I do so, and what is the key combination.

Can anyone assist me?

Thank you.

You get recovery console from the installed OS. You don't need the CD to reset your password. Have you tried this:
www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/resetpassword

Thanks

If you don't have a grub menu, then hold down [SHIFT] key until grub menu reveals.

The process is valid in regular installations , not wubi (Install Ubuntu inside Windows) ones.
