grub rescue after updateing from 12.04 to 12.10

Asked by tadiv

Recently I have had some stabiluty issues with 12.04, so I decided to upgrade (why does this always seem like a mistake after the fact) to 12.10. After rebooting, I get a text prompt that is "grub rescue>"

Now what am I supposed to do with that? How do I get my machine booting again?

Thanks,
Tom

Hello,

probably something went wrong during upgrade procedure and grub get corrupted. We have a tool which name is boot-repair. This tool works from a Live Cd/Usb of Ubuntu ( I hope you have one). Just boot from the live image (CD or USB) and "Try Ubuntu" (we don't want to re-install).

Then follow the instructions on following page

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Boot-Repair#A2nd_option_:_install_Boot-Repair_in_Ubuntu

You need the second option and above link points directly to this option.

Hopefully your problem will be solved.
