Update keeps failing

When trying to install updates i am repeatedly geting an error message with the folowing details
E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.
and i cant download flash players either

This may be a dumb question, but did you run "dpkg --configure -a" in the terminal?

If not, please do that and report back if that helps.

 I'm sorry if my questions are a bit stupid i am new to the software.? when i tried to run "dpkg --configure -a" in the terminal it sais i must have superuser privilages.? what and how do i do that.

To use "super user" privileges you must preface the command with "sudo" So it would look like this:

sudo dpkg --configure -a

It will ask you for your password, enter it and press enter.

That should resolve this problem.
