Alfonso, hello -- I'll see if I can help: I have a similar setup, albeit on a Sony not on an Acer.

Can you clarify whether you're using kubuntu or regular ubuntu? If you're using regular ubuntu, did you try to configure the card using System>Administration>Networking?

(disclaimer: I use GNOME. If you run kde/kubuntu or xfce/xubuntu, your mileage may vary)

Could you open a terminal and type:

  lsmod

in it? You should see some lines mentioning the ipw2200 module.

I found that *ignoring* System>Administration>Networking, and installing the network-manager, network-manager-gnome, and wpasupplicant packages made the ipw2200 in my Vaio VGN B3XP work on my wireless network. You might need to make sure nm-applet is running to see any icons in your system tray: check System>Preferences>Sessions>Startup Programs, and make sure it contains "nm-applet --sm-disable".

Could you paste the contents of your <Computer>/etc/network/interfaces file here, first "sanitising" any sensitive information like your essid, psk info, or any other sensitive-looking wpa* parts?

I got the same result of being disconnected on Dell Inspiron 600m. DHCP or static does not matter, roaming does not seem to connect. Is it possible to generate a network configuration script like I did in CentOS? Wired does connect.

It says I don't have permissions to change the interfaces file, but I am the only user! THis is very disappointing because I switched from CentOS to Ubuntu because I heard that Ubuntu worked nicely with wireless!

Can you help with this problem?
