boot problem

Asked by Edmond Condillac

Your kind help to fix the boot problem occurring on my computer would be most appreciated. The computer in use is Dell make model Dimension-2400 with Memory 1.2 Gib and 32-bit Processor Intel® Celeron(R) CPU 2.40GHz. The grub prompt appears every time when trying to boot normally into Ubuntu 12.04 LTS from Hard Disk. The current operating system booted into is Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 32-bit running from the live Ubuntu environment. From the terminal the following commands were run to install Boot Repair:

    sudo add-apt-repository ppa:yannubuntu/boot-repair
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get install -y boot-repair
    boot-repair

On running boot-repair, the message output was that a boot problem occurred and to report the following url for help regarding this:

Thank you for looking into my request.

So to clarify, Grub loads...does Ubuntu then load? What is the issue please?

Thank you for looking into thos request for help.
The booting process stops at the screen showing the grub prompt for basic commands only. I do not know what commands to run at this CLI showing the grub> prompt. There is no further progress with the booting procedure and Ubuntu does not load. All that I can do is to run the reboot command from the grub> prompt screen to restart the PC. This gives the grub prompt screen again!
Thanks again.
