/boot is full and I can't download updates.

What is /boot and why is it stopping me from downloading updates?
I have looked at the Disk Usage Analyzer which indicates I have about 297 GB of unused space on my hard drive (Main Volume).
/boot has 224.4 MB in it and is full. Will making /boot bigger help?

/boot contains the kernel images, so if you have more than one version (I usually keep two), you can delete older ones to recover some space.
