Evolution Mail receives messages but can't send

Asked by William Pabon

The Evolution app connects without problems with my IMAP server (GMail) and I can read all the messages. But, when I create a new one (no matter how small), when I hit send, it stays for ever sending it (or cancelling, if I click cancel). To cancel the message I have to exit the Evolution app. Any help to solve this is appreciated.

Side note:
If this may have any bearing on the problem, I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS virtualized (Virtual Box) on a Mac host.
Thanks.

Have you checked your account settings many ISP have different settings for send and receiving email for example I send using SMTP and receive using POP3.

Do you get any error messages?

Warren:
Thanks for answering. No, the problem is not with the ISP. I have the same settings in my laptop with Evolution and don't have problems. It is only with the setup working on virtualized environment, though I think it shouldn't have any bearing. There, is no error message except the one that occurs I if leave it until the system tells me that sending the message was not successful.

Also check settings using this:

I'm betting it is the SMTP security settings

As you suggested, it was an issue of configuring the mail account. The thing that took a while to figure out (my ignorance) was that after configuring the account I had to exit Evolution and start over in order to the changes take effect. Thanks again.
