Shutdown option disappeared on the system pull down manual

After forced shutdown with power switch button, the "shutdown" option disappeared from the "System" pull down manual. The power manager is not responding. I have Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. How to bring the proper "shutdown" ? Thank you.

Lucid is no longer supported in any way. I suggest you upgrade to Precise which you can do in one jump as it is LTS to LTS.
