Open empty disc

When I insert a disc in my cd/dvd drive as with windows it will not show up a empty disc and this means that I can not open and paste files this way ? does unbuntu have a similar option if so how can I excess it

System → Preference → Removable Drives and Media → Storage → Blank CD and DVD Discs
