CD from Ubuntu won't install

Asked by Vicntc

I ordered the "free" CD from the main screen after reading a positive Ubuntu article from Mark Russinovich. When I boot the CD, I get to the Ubuntu screen and choose to "Start or Install Ubuntu".

I then see the Ubuntu logo and the orange progress bar bouncing back and forth. After a minute or so the bar's movement gets choppy and eventually stops. Shortly afterwards, my computer goes silent (monitor power button blinks on bubt no signal, no PC HD activity etc). No mater how long I wait (including overnight) nothing happens after this point. I have also tried different screen resolutions (from the menu) and safe-graphics mode. Same thing happens.

The PC more than meets the minimum requirements.

Some information about your hardware would be very helpful.

Try to boot with parametres "noapic nolapic acpi=off" (in boot menu press F6 and write "noapic nolapic acpi=off" (without quotation marks) at the end of displayed line).

That made it proceed farther than last time but now it's stopped at the next phase. There is a progress bar with about 20-25 squares. Each square is filled in with orange except for the last 4. No further movement.

I probably should have said so before but does it matter that this is an AMD CPU?

I have also tried

xforcevesa noapic nolapic acpi=off

loads through progress bar that slides back and forth
loads through progress bar that fills up with blocks
reboots and starts another progress bar
gets to about 4 blocks from the end then nothing

At Ubuntu 7.10 live cd first menu, please press F6 remove the quiet and splash parameters and add yours.
You will see more informative warning or error at startup that may help you to debug your issue.

Thank you

Following the suggestion from marcobra (above), the system shows the following:

Starting Common Unix Printing system cpsd [OK]
_

The "_" is a cursor but nothing happens after that, it just sits.

Please reboot your pc and starting with Ubuntu live cd please try to put some common Ubuntu kernel live cd options you can find the boot options howto here:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BootOptions
First parameter you can try by put them one by one or together are:
