Splash screen then nothing

I am new to ubuntu. after installing and mounting the iso to a disc (i burnt the iso properly as i can get it to boot) i restarted my computer and got to the screen with the options. clicking on any of them leads to an I/O read error. even when i mount the original iso in windows xp, the splash screen says loading browser, and then i get no activity. please help

i use isorecorder and xp sp2. i also have a dvd-rw and the iso is burned to a cd-rw.

you must verify the md5checksum before burning the iso. did you do that?
try burning the iso in lower speeds
