Ubuntu 12.04 locking up.

 I just installed Ubuntu 12.04 as only operating system On my Dell Inspiron B130. Once I log on after a minute it goes to a black screen with programing on it then locks up or if I try to update anything it locks up can anyone help and is there easier way of getting instant help other then waiting two hours for a response.

Terminal is where troubleshooting takes place. Many times the person answering, will ask for results of a command. You will copy and paste their command into Terminal. Then you will copy and paste results back here. The way to get into Terminal is CTRL+ALT+T. Most times it will ask for your password. Type it in, you will see nothing, press enter, Terminal will take it. Try this command: lspci

I do not know the answer to your original question. Launchpad is other Ubuntu users answering questions, that we have knowledge about. Some people that answer, are in UK, Greece, and other parts of Europe. They will be off the internet now. People in US will still be on. Getting immediate answers, will require paid support. You have an Intel GPU. I also suggest you use the Unity2D as it is lighter.

Can you please quit with the "is anyone there" crap. This is NOT irc, it is not live. It is a forum and people will reply if and when they can. Adding those posts simply lengthens your post and means people have to read more useless text.
