tv in ubuntu 12.04

hello guys, I am intersting in watching and recording tv in ubuntu 12.04 lts. I ve been reading alot about tv tuners or combos with video card included. Im newbee and seems intimidating to me to adapt a tv tuner or video card in linux. In reality I DONT KNOW HOW TO START. I try to look in recognized stores but everything is made for windows!...Probably I can find a card but when I get it what is made at the begining? What type of commands would I have to use first to configure the new card? the drivers are available for linux supported cards or I would need to look for them?..thanks

check the linux hcl as well as amazon, people frequently state if things work well with Linux. Also look for companies offering Linux preinstalled and the tuners they offer.
