Unable to access/mount USB device in Ubuntu 13.04

Asked by Sam Jackson

I just upgraded to Ubuntu 13.04. When I attached an MP3 player to the USB port, it shows up under my devices by name (as it always did with earlier versions of Ubuntu) but I can't access or mount it to add or change files. The error I get says "Unable to open MTP device '[usb:001,007]' Is there a way to solve this?

Please provide the output from a terminal (CTRL+ALT+T) of the following command before you plug the device in

----------------------
lsusb
---------------------

Plug the device in and run the same command again

Post the results back here together with the make and model of the mp3 player.

this is because your mp3 player does not support for mass storage connectivity.

first check for setting in mp3 player to set usb connectivity to mass storage.which setting I have seen on some players.

if there is no option this means your mpr player supports only mtp(media transfer protocol) which is developped by microsoft.

fortunately there are linux implementations, try this
