can't install vmware

Asked by Wladston Viana

when I try to install VMWare Player, I get an error :

Cannot install 'vmware-player'

This application conflicts with other installed software. To install 'vmware-player' the conflicting software must be removed before.

Switch to the advanced mode to resolve this conflict.

note: there is no more "advanced" button in edgy! (should i submit a bug ?)

On synaptic, it tells me I have to remove these :
libdbus-1-2
libnautilus-burn3

What do I do ?

Is your version of Edgy updated? Also is this a fresh install or an upgrade from Dapper? I just noticed that I have libnautilus-burn4 installed.

Make sure you run the vmware-config.pl file again. It will probably have to rebuild the kernel modules.

Never mind I didn't read correctly.

You can try the package from the vmware site.

I'm afraid to harm my system by uninstalling

libdbus-1-2
libnautilus-burn3

also, williamts99, forgot to tell : I'm from the upgraded dapper. shoud I make a clean install (let's really hope not!!!)

Not exactly sure, though it does seem that the upgrade to edgy has caused a few issues before. I tried it on my fresh install of edgy and didn't have a problem such as yours. So it could be an issue from the upgrade. Otherwise not sure, have you tried the package from the vmware site?

I have removed those packages, and looks like my system is ok.

I'll now read the manuals to find out how to use it.

Thanks, williamts99!
