Can Wireless adapter be made to work in Ubuntu 10.10

The Realtek Linux driver installs on Ubuntu 10.10. As Maverick Meerkat is not supported any more I need to upgrade to somthing like 12.04 at least. It would be most appreciated if I could get some help,please

Yes, it will more than likely work. You can always try in liveCD. If you dislike Unity then use Xubuntu.
