black screen after login, or ttyl1

every time i try to log in i either get the nvidia symbol and my login screen, then when i try to use one of my UEs and login the screen goes black, or the nvidia symbol wont even appear, i just get the ttyl1 command line interface.

i just got it to boot intot the normal login screen

tried to lof into gnome classic and the screen turned off

Try to reinstall gnome-classic package.
Also try to remove the file ~/.Xauthority and see if problem solved. What version of Ubuntu you have ? Is this a new install or upgrade from another (older) Ubuntu version ?

What is the output of:

sudo lshw -C display; lsb_release -a; uname -a; sudo dmidecode -t 1
