unable to rename files or folders, new or old, in any way

Asked by gbmbg

I am unable to rename anything. I can't rename old files or folders. If I create a new folder I can't give it a name and it remains as "untitled folder". If I right click on something and choose the "Rename" option I can highlight the text of the file/foler's name, but when I try to type nothing happens at all.

I am using Ubuntu 7.10.

This is unlikely to be a bug report and is probably a permissions issue with the folder or folders that you are writing to. Subsequently, I am converting this to a question where your issue will be better resolved.

I had a similar issue. See if this sounds familiar and if my fix works for you.
