Is anybody else experiencing random freeze ups in 13.04?

Asked by Melinda

Is anybody else experiencing random freeze ups in Lubuntu 13.04? I already had three or more so far on a previous stable system. I can't even move the mouse, and clicking on anything doesn't work and no keyboard input works. Only way to get the system back is to hold in the power button for 5 seconds until the machine shuts down completely (bad for the hardware).

Does the system have a make and model?
Do you have full updates?
Do you have the latest BIOS?
Have you tested your RAM using Memtest86+ from Grub?

@ Savio The freezing happens when I'm watching a video on youtube, or when I open Firefox, or just when I'm browsing the internet. The screen turns either black, or grey with lines, and does not let me do anything. @ actionparsnip I do have all the full updates and not sure latest BIOS. Also no I haven't tested my ram using Memtest86+ from Grub. I found this article, not sure if it will help my situation any, but I did those commands in the terminal last-night. As of last-night I haven't had any more freezes, I'm crossing my fingers it'll remain that way. http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntucat/pure-lubuntu-13-04/

Hold shift at boot and select memtest. let it run for a while. If you see any red then the RAM is bad.

Did the memtest and I didn't see anything red. On Pass - it says 100%, Memory 895m 2003/MB/s then Ram: 287mHz/CAS: 4-4-412/DDR2 (128bits)

Can you help with this problem?
