ethernet card not detected in any ubuntu version

i have a Dell XPS-One-2710. wifi works perfectly but it doesnt want to detect my ethernet card. works under windows 8 but i want to stick with Linux because i hate MS.

right now i'm running 13.04 with kernel 3.9 but it has never detected it all the way back to 12.04.

help!!!

Please provide us with your make and model of your computer, and that of your ethernet card.
Also, please give the output of : lsb_release -a

i have the Dell All in One XPS-One-2710 and the model of my ethernet card is Qualcomm Atheros AR8161 Gigabit Ethernet (rev 08).

Thanks. Are you using the latest driver? Is may be that propietery drives are required for this card. Open hardware drivers using your preferred method, then check for any drivers that are related and if there are any install them.
