software updates / repositories

Asked by davidzaq1

I am getting the following message. Is there a way to fix it?

I do not understand the virtualbox as it is not installed and do not know how to get this out of the terminal.

Thank you.

W: Failed to fetch http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian/dists/lucid/Release Unable to find expected entry 'non-free/source/Sources' in Release file (Wrong sources.list entry or malformed file)

E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

To fix the wrong terminal output, open the sources.list file and carefully remove the line
http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian/dists/lucid/Release

As for VB, it is preferred to install the .deb package from Oracle's site.
Here:
https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux_Downloads

BUT

have in mind that Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid) is about to expire in a few days. No more support - or new packages - or updates be available anymore.

Consider to upgrade to a newer and supported version of Ubuntu. (eg Ubuntu 12.04 LTS).
