Kernel update causes crash

Asked by Ron Rhodes

Ubuntu 12.10 64 bit. On 2/5/13 I installed the updates which inluded a new kernel, 35.5.0-28. When I select this in Grub a complete crash occurs, nothing happens and nothing works except the computer on-off button which immediately shuts down thecomputer when pressed (normally I would expect to hold the button down for 5 sec).
I have had to revert to kernel 35.5.0-27.
Any help will be appreciated while I look into filing a bug.
Regards, Ron Rhodes.

Please ignore my above question. When I did the update on 2/5/13 one of the new kernel packages was held back,
this package subsequently became available and I installed it expecting to cure the problem but when I tried it nothing seemed to have changed, still crashing. I also subsequently installed ubuntu 12.04-02 and 13.04 to multiboot so grub was updated by these installs. Susequent to posting my question I tried kernel 35.5.0-28 and to my surprise it now works OK.
